Admission policies, in the school's words

While coursework completed at the community or junior college is allowed, the Committee strongly prefers that courses are completed at a regionally accredited college or university. All coursework must be completed in the United States. In-person classes are strongly preferred, but not required. For Academic Years 2020 and 2021, we will allow both pass/fail grades and on-line courses for prerequisites. All required coursework must be completed prior to matriculation. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that pre-requisite coursework is completed. Letters of Recommendation are required. We strongly prefer a letter from your Pre-professional Advisory Committee or its equivalent. If you have a Committee evaluation, you need no others. If your Committee sends a packet of letters without a consensus evaluation, then that packet should contain 3-5 signed, dated letters. If your school does not have a Committee, or should you fail to meet their requirements/deadlines, we advise you to get letters from three individual professors. Science professors are preferred. Realize that letters from writers besides your Committee or professors usually provide limited useful information and therefore impact your competitive standing marginally, if at all. We use the AMCAS Letters Service exclusively, and the only way to add your support to an applicant’s file is via AMCAS Letters Service. Email, US Mail, hand delivery, FedEx, phone calls, etc., will not work. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that the appropriate letters are provided to AMCAS. Refer to AMCAS for detailed instructions. https://www.lsuhs.edu/our-schools/school-ofmedicine/admissions/~board/som-admissions/post/academic-requirements

Notes

'Admissions at a Glance' is labeled 'Class of 2026' without stating the year convention; its figures (4,434 applications, 325 interviews, average GPA 3.77, average BCPM GPA 3.71, average MCAT section scores BBFL 127 / CARS 126 / CPBS 126 / PSBB 128 shown with 'TOTAL 507', 46% male / 54% female, average age 23, range 21-32, 8 states of legal residence) match the FAQ's 'last cycle' figures (over 3,000 applications, about 320 interviewed, average MCAT 507, final matriculating class 150), so it is recorded as the 2026 entering class; matriculants and pct_in_state (100 minus ~20% out-of-state) come from the FAQ. No minimum GPA/MCAT; only US citizens, permanent residents and asylees considered; secondary fee amount not stated ($50 fee applies to Early Decision materials).
