Admission policies, in the school's words

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to apply for admission to the UME Program: A 4-year undergraduate degree, or equivalent, from a recognized institution in any discipline. We do not give preference to any one (1) particular discipline over another. Canadian citizen or permanent resident (landed immigrant) status A minimum grade point average of 3.0 on the 4.0 scale All applications for admission to all Ontario medical schools are submitted through the Ontario Medical School Application Service (OMSAS). To apply to NOSM University's UME Program, applicants must register and create an account with OMSAS. The OMSAS application opens in mid-July. The application deadline is the first week of October for admission the following September. All applications to NOSM University's UME Program are initially screened and scored based on two (2) components: 1. Grade Point Average (GPA) 2. Context Score The scoring weight of each component is 1/2. The combination of the scores from these components will determine if you are offered an interview. Approximately 300 top-ranked applicants are invited to participate in the admissions interviews. The final selection of applicants receiving an offer of admission is based on a combination of the pre-interview (32%) and the interview (68%) scores and a complete file review by the Admissions Selection Committee. It is at this point in the selection process that Confidential Assessment Forms (CAF) are reviewed. Prerequisite Requirements NOSM University does not require the completion of specific preparatory course work. While there are no course prerequisites, NOSM University values applicants who present evidence of a broad undergraduate education. It is recommended that applicants with majors in science complete at least two (2) full course equivalents* in arts, social sciences and/or humanities, and that applicants pursuing majors in arts, social sciences and/or humanities complete at least two (2) full course equivalents* in science. *Two(2) full course equivalents refer to two (2) full-year course credits, four (4) semester courses, or a combination of one (1) full course credit and two (2) semester courses. The designation of a course as “Arts, Social Sciences, Humanities, or Science” is determined by the institution you are attending or attended. If you are unsure as to a course designation, please check with the Registrar’s Office of the institution where the course is/was offered.
