Admission policies, in the school's words

**Response to COVID-19 - Information for 2026 Admissions Cycle** We understand that the COVID-19 pandemic may have impacted different facets of an applicant's portfolio, including, but not limited to: Pass/Fail grades, on-line coursework, and/or discontinuation of activities. The Admissions Committee will be flexible in its admission criteria and will continue to holistically review and evaluate each application. We ask only that you provide a letter or document confirming the reason you opted for these different experiences. The Committee on Admissions considers the total qualifications of each applicant without regard to sex, race, color, creed, national origin, religion, age, sexual orientation, marital status, or disability. Decisions regarding admission are based on multiple factors including prior academic performance; completion of the courses required for admission; the potential for academic success including performance on standardized tests such as the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT); communication skills, character, personal skills, health-related experiences, and motivation for a career in medicine. Admissions preference is given to USA citizens and permanent residents who are New York State residents, although well-qualified out of state applicants are also accepted. We welcome and encourage applications from women and members of groups underrepresented in medicine. Visit website for additional information https://www.downstate.edu/education-training/college-ofmedicine/admissions/policies/index.html

Notes

Applicant and class-size figures are approximate ('a pool of approximately 5,500' and 'a class of 200'). First-year class page gives, for entering 2026, 52% male / 46% female, mean age 24, 78 undergraduate colleges, and states only that the class mean MCAT and GPA are 'slightly above the mean of those admitted nationally' (no numbers). No GPA/MCAT cutoffs stated; a supplemental application processing fee exists but the amount was not found.
