We accept courses taken at a community college, through a summer school or online, as long as the institution meets our accreditation requirements. Admission policies, in the school's words

Information for 2027 Admissions Cycle Pass/Fail Courses, Online Coursework and Labs: Courses used to meet prerequisites must appear on a transcript; WashU Medicine will only accept credits earned at an institution accredited by one of the seven regional Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) bodies in the United States, institutions recognized by Universities Canada, or an American College Overseas, as defined in the AMCAS Applicant Guide. The COA will consider the rigor of the applicant’s curriculum, their performance in each class, and grading practices at their institution. We do accept courses that have been taken pass/fail. We also accept courses taken at a community college, through a summer school or utilizing an online method of instruction. Prerequisites may be met in this manner. However, the majority of classes, especially science classes, should optimally be taken for a letter grade at an individual’s primary undergraduate institution. Find more information on https://mdadmissions.wustl.edu/how-to-apply/requirements/ As a participant in the American Medical College Application Service® (AMCAS®), WashU Medicine abides by the Application and Acceptance Protocols established by the AAMC and encourages students to use the accompanying AMCAS® Choose Your Medical School Tool. Applicants holding at least one acceptance from any medical school will have the option to “Plan to Enroll” in midFebruary. Per WashU Medicine Admissions policy, applicants who have been offered admission to WashU Medicine and intend to matriculate at WashU Medicine should indicate they “Plan to Enroll” through the Choose Your Medical School Tool as soon as possible, but no later than April 30 of the year in which they will matriculate. WashU Medicine reserves the right to rescind offers of acceptance if an applicant has not selected “Plan to Enroll” by April 30. After April 30, while an applicant maintains the “Plan to Enroll” status at WashU Medicine, applicants may continue to hold positions on the waitlist of other schools. Beginning April 30, accepted applicants have the option to “Commit to Enroll” (CTE) at WashU Medicine. When an applicant selects “CTE” to WashU Medicine, they should notify all other institutions where they hold an acceptance or position on the waitlist that they wish to withdraw their acceptance or position on the waitlist from that school. WashU Medicine reserves the right to rescind an offer of admission to any applicant still holding an active acceptance at another institution while having a “CTE” status with WashU Medicine. WashU Medicine reserves the right to rescind offers of admission from any applicant still holding a WashU Medicine acceptance while indicating that they either “Plan to Enroll” or “Commit to Enroll” at another institution after April 30. For applicants accepted after April 30, the timeline for selecting “Plan to Enroll” will be specified by the Associate Dean for Admissions. All MSTP applicants planning to matriculate at WashU Medicine should select the "CTE" option no later than May 30, 2027. All MD applicants planning to matriculate at WashU Medicine should select the "CTE" option no later than July 20, 2027.

Mission statement

In leading the advancement of human health, WashU Medicine will: Cultivate excellence and collegiality within an equitable and inclusive community. Attract, develop, advance and support a diverse and talented current and future workforce. Innovate through discoveries and inventions in basic, clinical, translational and population sciences. Build and support an environment that fosters exceptionally creative research, health care, education and the well-being of our workforce. Use our academic excellence and scientific rigor to continually advance and enhance health care in a way that ensures access, compassion, high value, equity and evidencebased care for all people in our community, including those who are underserved and uninsured. Observe the highest standards of ethics, integrity and humanity across all of our missions. Apply advances in research, education and health care for the betterment of the human condition, locally and globally. Educating tomorrow’s leaders in biomedicine involved reimagining a medical curriculum that fosters both self-directed and team-based learning. The Gateway Curriculum, implemented in 2020, provides exposure to research and advocacy in basic science, clinical-translational science, public and population health, primary care, and the social sciences, as well as longitudinal experiences with patients in community-based settings. Such a dynamic curriculum enables students to create new science that will enrich the health of our community, while becoming empathic practitioners who will commit to eliminating intractable and unconscionable health disparities. Our Gateway Curriculum ensures that our students are not only exceptional physicians, but that they understand the social and structural determinants of health and are prepared to lead transformational changes needed to improve our future. The EXPLORE program within Gateway is a formalized approach to career development that helps students find their niche in academic medicine among four pathways: Advocacy/Global Health, Education, Innovation, and Research. A network of faculty coaches facilitates students’ navigation through the curriculum and ensures that our students are reaching their full personal and professional potential. The Career Counseling Office works closely with students to explore the possibilities for graduate medical training and careers. Our Office of Admissions operates under a mission-aligned framework.
